So I was talking to Makoto Ichikawa awhile back, pondering why the cartoon image of Japanese poop looks like soft serve ice cream while in America cartoon poop is more candy-bar shaped. It all has to do with the old style of Japanese bathrooms where you squat (rather than sit) with no water to break the fall - so naturally the resulting shape will look different. It was a cultural revelation for me.
