Where do Japanese eat on the go?

Americans eat anywhere & everywhere: while walking, in elevators, parking lots, seen people eat in bathrooms (gag). Japan has so many great "on the go" foods but nobody eats in public. I love grabbing food at the Yokohama train station like nikuman but there's nowhere to eat it without feeling self conscious, except at home.
