Pebble Smartwatch makers are about to live stream an announcement today at 11am. I've been enjoying my Pebble for about a month and it does notifications the best. All the other potential things it can do like a camera trigger, games, social net updates, sms, etc. are bonuses but those functions are definitely not quite solid in their implementations as they tend to crash the watch from time to time and take some tinkering to get going. But wrist sized notifications are a right step in the right direction without over stepping form and functionality (like the Galaxy Gear seems to be doing).
