Saw March of the Penguins last night with Miho and Satoshi (her brother) at the Pike in Downtown Long Beach. Some quick notes. The movie was good but it's probably better as a DVD rental. The footage looked like a mix of 35mm and 16mm film and while some of the footage was spectacular, some was grainy and with not enough detail to justify watching it on the big screen. Miho liked it, Satoshi fell asleep. Ran into Matt Dow from CSULB and then we ate at Bubba Gump's - the food wasn't that bad (I had the bourbon mahi mahi) but the over all atmosphere is too down and dirty for the prices you pay. The restaurant is right next to V2O - a club I've heard of that might be worth checking out (the crowd looks a little young though - ugh, I'm getting old!). When we got back to my apartment, a broken sprinkler head was shooting an arc of water over a parked Mustang under a full moon. It was a strangely surreal sight that seemed almost beautiful. Unfortunately it was too dark to take a picture. Sam.
